Phormium – Genus endemic to New Zealand with only 2 species, Phormium tenax and cookianum, the latter split into two sub-species, hookeri and cookianum. Many cultivars have arisen from these species making Phormium a very widely cultivated plant in NZ and the rest of the world, much loved especially as a hardy garden plant. Family – Phormiaceae. Evergreen perennial.
